Future Gas Strategy: The Real Story | Richard Denniss
The Government's Future Gas Strategy is a future climate disaster. It's hard to believe in 2024 we still have Governments pretending we need to expand fossil fuel production to “help tackle climate change”.
"This is a plan to expand the industry that's causing climate change, and we're greenwashing it and calling it a solution. It's sick."
- Richard Denniss, Executive Director of the Australia Institute.

Government DELAYS Vital Environment Reforms
Переглядів 1,1 тис.21 день тому
While the Great Barrier Reef is bleaching for the fifth time in eight years, the Government has announced delays in reforming the Environmental Protection and Biodiversity Act, which will likely mean the current pipeline of at least 30 fossil fuel projects - including 25 coal mines and massive gas projects - are approved under existing laws. Australia Institute research shows the 25 coal mines ...

Hilarious NeoColonialist tripe cloaked in Miltonian economic attacks on Asia.
Stopped watching with your silly land acknowledgement. I'll assume you own property - either give it to the aboriginals you pretend to love so much or shut up.
Stock standard mafia-like aussie atrocities, aka foreign ownership and legalised robbery under arms. Un-real criminality.
It's not denial, it's corruption.
Economic blackmail by the fossil fuel industry trumps forward thinking politics again. I don't get it , whatever economic gains, it's electoral poison. But what alternative? Wish the Greens didn't have so much bad stigma and more fiscal credibility.
u need to calm down. during eastern states drought 2002, this institute recommended ACT sue NSW farmers for dust pollution; FFS !!
Huh, Labor is corrupted to the bone. Just like the Libs. Why anyone votes for these pricks is beyond me.
already passed 1.5 d. A few hundred scientists did a survey and majority of them agreed by 2100, we will be at 3d plus
They are stealing off us
Project sucks as well
You don't have to be Einstein to figure out what the government does... You're old, now your house is worth 1.2 million 😢
They literally went up 5% during it...
Shared thakyou...
Nearly all renewable energy supplies don’t produce energy when the sun goes down and coal plants are being shut down (because they don’t function efficiently within the supply of renewables … so what other fuel can you burn? GAS!!… Gas turbine generation is quick (and “clean” compared to coal) and buffers the atrocious reliability being experienced due to shutting down stable coal generation and relying on unstable renewable sourced energy. The government doesn’t want you connecting or using gas anymore… because Australia already has a limited supply (due to allowing gas companies control over exports), yet now more than ever the government needs that gas (that households would have otherwise utilised) to supply our energy grid in the midst of this Net-Zero nonsense. On top of that they also pushed EV’s!!… which are mostly charging overnight! Work that out??
The Labor government has done some good things, however their record on environmental issues is extremely disappointing. The continuation of harvesting of native forests and land clearing is a related issue that is mostly ignored. How can we possibly expect CO2 emissions to reduce when governments allow the destruction of the trees that absorb CO2 and produce oxygen. It's absurd. It's almost as though we have to continue to degrade our environment because it isn't cost-effective not to do so. It's getting hard to be optimistic.
Very informative video - thank you for making us aware!
I can’t express how maddening this is. I’ve had enough of it. I’ve been a life long labor voter and even a member of the party at one point. This will cost my vote. The politics and bullshit is just too much. At this point I’ll vote for anyone who will hold these corporations to account. It’s just utter insanity.
Thanks for holding a light to the issues. But, until the majority of the population is impacted by your (great) points on client science and economics; policy will always benefit those who can speak the loudest.
I agree with so many here. Labour has completely dropped the ball. It’s disgraceful.
Thankyou ❤️
Speaking truth to power! Why do we risk allowing ourselves to be hoodwinked!!
More disapointment from the mob we thought would change things for the better.
And that's why I can not vote for any of these idiots no matter what they say and that means all of them the problem is people don't got no science until that is fixed we are f..ked
A new study came out in October and was supposed to be why Biden paused exports, gas is at least 24% worse than coal.
If we dont export it, another country will. Maybe this wasnt labors choice.
Lets negotiate with the gas industry starting with LESS new projects and MORE tax.
Are Australian politicians in the pocket of overeas fossil fuel corporations ? Or are they just stupid ? Perhaps both.
Labor lost my vote just after they got into office, the subs deal failing to properly deal with the housing crisis and the watering down of the federal ICAC. Now just yesterday they showed their hand by turning their backs on the unemployed and pensioners and now this environmental disaster, oh and when did gas become renewable?
What does that even mean? Does it mean you've been voting labor 1 in elections?
Climate change has always occurred during history. Plants need CO2 to grow. Reducing CO2 means less crops and less people !
Yes, the ‘Climate Wars are over’ and the fossil fuel industry won 😮
Thanks for the truth
How can you get this message into the mainstream? Everyone should be marching on the streets. There is so much wrong with this country and so much wrong with the 2 main parties. The days of political apathy should be over and people need to vote accordingly.
what should we call the right wing of the Labor party currently keeping things LNP? Purples?
You're right Richard, it's sick. Just another betrayal from this gutless, turd polishing Albanese government.
Earth is past 1.5 deg already.
Both major pollical parties are bent over and rooted in the bum hole by the fossil fuel companies.
The Mad King is truly mad (or captured).
Spot on. Follow the money
This seems very much like a case of putting something outrageous out so that those greenie rubes think they've won when one extreme aspect of it gets walked back, when in reality the dial has still been turned further in favour of the party sponsors. What else do you expect from a corporate sponsored political system?
Yep Not happy
We REALLY need Labor to be forced into coalition with Greens or Teals at the next election.
Too right. Albo just destroyed his and the parties credibility. People voted for change, not this spineless sellout. So disappointed .
Labor is gone.
Idiots !!!!!
Don't vote establishment!
Bass strait Victoria NOT over commercial fished, it’s been over blasted killing marine life 😡
Bass strait Victoria already had the backside blasted out of it in the early 2000s fisherman lost millions in quota cuts 🦞
More fossil fuels is less fossil fuels just like up is down and Australian politicians are not transferring wealth out of Australia
Why is Labor doing this then???
Both Liberal and Labor are shit. So disappointed. Not voting for either next election
You will end up voting for Labor or the coalition if you vote properly.
You can always spot people who have no idea how to vote. "I'm not voting for them again!" If you voted properly, Australia wouldn't be in this mess!
Thanks Denniss for highlighting the lack of strategy in the future gas strategy. Clearly the Albanese Government have been captured by the gas lobbyists on this vital energy policy. We need a public interests test before more of our gas is approved for export
